Too often our eating patterns fall victim to our busy lifestyles.

We alternate between starving and stuffing ourselves, which leaves our body craving unhealthy, filling foods that lack substantial nutritive qualities. Without adequate nutritional support, our bodies have no chance of maintaining a healthy equilibrium. Poor eating habits only contribute further to conditions including anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, poor cognitive function and spinal degeneration. We can turn the tables and use nutrition to our advantage by being mindful about our approach to eating.

When should I eat? The mindfulness approach

Your body knows when it needs to eat and it is your job to listen. Don’t let yourself get dizzy with hunger before you plate up; eating when you are famished causes you to eat more than you need to at a rapid clip. A more effective method is to eat before you tell yourself that you could eat an entire horse. Here are some other tips for eating effectively:

  • Eat within one hour of waking: to stabilize blood sugar levels.
  • Keep your food choices simple: focus on getting your nutrition from whole, rather than processed, foods.
  • Eat when you feel hungry: eat slowly, processing each bite. STOP before you feel too full.
  • Snack strategically: chances are there are gaps that need to be filled in between meals. Choose fruit, nuts, seeds and dark chocolate to go along with a mid-morning tea to keep you going until lunch.

Nutrition is one piece of the puzzle

At Espinosa Family Chiropractic, we are dedicated to helping people find natural solutions for all of their health needs. Nutrition is the number one way to start influencing your health in a more positive manner. Think of every bite you eat as a chance to either add to, or detract from, your wellbeing. Nutrition augments everything we do at our office in Sacramento- if you are interested in using the power of nutrition and chiropractic to feel better, give us a call to schedule an appointment today.
