Mental Health in October
To say it’s been a stressful and impactful year is an understatement. Right now we’re dealing with a global pandemic that doesn’t seem to be easing up. Some of us are separated from loved ones and have been for the better part of the year by now.
Pair this with the fact that we’re in an election year and this election will be happening in just a few short weeks — people on both sides of the coin are extremely on edge during these times.
That’s why it’s extremely important to make sure that you take care of yourself, especially your mental landscape during this time.
Exercise
We tend to think of exercise as only benefitting our bodies, but when we don’t exercise, this means that we have built-up energy that we’re not using, which means it will get used in other ways or show up in other ways. Anxiety will often be the culprit here. When you have extra energy to burn, a lot of times you’ll spend it thinking about all of your life’s worries at night instead of sleeping soundly after a day of hard work and hard exercise.
Meditate
Meditation has been shown to provide an immense amount of benefits to those who choose to practice. Meditation has been shown to reduce anxiety, boost mood, not to mention increase mental focus. When you sit down to meditate, try your best to let your restless thoughts settle. Try your best to think of nothing for 10-20 minutes. When you catch yourself thinking, simply become aware of it, and make yourself stop. Do that over and over again until your time allotment is up. As you build your meditation practice you’ll catch yourself thinking less and less as you go along.
Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic treatment has been shown to help promote a better night of sleep, boost mood, reduce anxiety, not to mention ease tension in the back, neck, joints, and other areas of the body. Contact Espinosa Family Chiropractic today to schedule your consultation during the month of October in order to double-down on your mental wellness protocol.
Chiro for Terrible Twos
The “Terrible Twos” is what a lot of people describe a time in a child’s life when they begin to experience mood shifts and shifts in behavior, perhaps mixed with a dash of coming into their own power and stretching the margins of that power.
Since you’re likely staying at home during these uncertain times of pandemic, it’s a good idea to have some handy solutions ready that will help your child create a space where they can be healthy and well year-round.
One way to set your child on a path to wellness early on is to cultivate a relationship with your local chiropractor. Chiropractic treatment provides an immense amount of benefits to infants and children, benefits that speak to the terrible two-year-old in all of us.
First, chiropractic treatment will help your child get a better night of sleep, which will help them get the rest they need to function at 100% the next day.
Chiropractic treatment has also been shown to improve mood and reduce depression, not to mention boost brain cognition — all benefits a cranky two-year-old can certainly benefit from.
As your child grows, chiropractic treatment can come through in the clutch, helping relieve growing pains the all-natural way.
If you’d like to know more about how our treatments can benefit your entire family, contact Espinosa Family Chiropractic today to schedule your consultation.
125 Years of Chiropractic!
Today the honorable profession of chiropractic turns 125! Yes, that’s correct, chiropractic specialists have been providing their drug-free treatments in order to alleviate or in some cases even cure a variety of health conditions, abnormalities, and maladies alike.
Back in 1895 D.D. Palmer provided an adjustment for Harvey Lillard in a quiet place in downtown Davenport, Iowa — the rest is history!
Over the last century-plus, the chiropractic profession has evolved and refined itself, helping patients from all walks of life live happier, healthier lives.
Moving forward, chiropractic treatment is only going to be more important. As we continue to face our current opioid epidemic, chiropractic adjustments provide the drug-free solutions that help patients avoid prescription drugs and opioid use.
At Espinosa Family Chiropractic we have a firm sense as well as a great appreciation for our rich history as chiropractic specialists. Contact us today and we’ll see about constructing a custom-tailored treatment plan that will help you get the sort of results you have to experience in order to believe.
Warming Up and Cooling Down
When it comes to your workouts, warming up before your workout and cooling down afterward are both essential.
Warming Up
Your warm-up should include a routine and movements that are essential to your workout, while at the same time not pushing your body anywhere near the realm of what you do during a workout. Boxers might warm-up for 45 minutes before the start hitting the bag, simply working on footwork, dancing around to get the blood flowing, and perhaps shadowboxing here and there to get the muscles prepped for a workout.
Cooling Down
Cooling down is important in order to avoid post-exercise hypotension, which has to do with the blood pressure drop that will likely occur after an immediate stop after a workout. When you come to a complete standstill post-exercise this can cause blood to pool in the legs, which can result in dizziness, fainting, lowered blood pressure, and more.
Cooling down will also ensure that lactic acid doesn’t build up in the muscles, which can result in cramping and pain.

Most Common Causes of Auto Accidents
At Espinosa Family Chiropractic we see many patients who experience the unfortunate event of an automobile accident, which can cause all sorts of injuries — or worse…
Below, we go over some of the more common reasons that automobile accidents occur in hopes that we can help people avoid experiencing an accident that could yield and injury that will make it necessary to see the chiropractor.
Driving While Distracted
Driving while distracted is perhaps the number one cause of automobile accidents, whether it happens because a person is looking at their phone, dealing with a child in the back, putting on makeup, or even something as seemingly innocuous as changing the song playing in the car. Accidents can occur within the blink of an eye, so it’s important to always keep your eyes on the road.
Driving While Impaired
Driving while impaired is one of the most common reasons accidents occur. If you take a prescription drug, have adult beverages, or do anything that impairs your ability to drive, you have no business being on the road. Make sure to get a designated driver. Let’s all keep each other safe out there!
Speeding
Speeding is another common culprit when it comes to automobile accidents. Observing regulations and street signs, not to mention making sure that you do not go over the posted legal speed limit.
Espinosa Family Chiropractic is here in the event that you do experience an automobile accident and seek drug-free pain solutions. Contact us today to schedule your consultation.
Planning a Labor Day that Makes Sense During Times of COVID-19
As we continue to face the effects of COVID-19 as it continues to run its course across the globe, it’s a good idea to custom-tailor your Labor Day plans to ensure you limit your own exposure and limit the risk of infecting those who come into contact with you.
Chances are, by now, you’ve begun to see close friends and close family, and maybe you’ve taken to enjoying the outdoors on your weekends.
Maybe you’d like to avoid going hiking, since that is probably what a lot of people are going to be doing — many folks seem to forget the whole “Let’s all limit our exposure,” thing.
Instead, try something more remote. Paddleboarding is a fine option. The chances that anyone invades your six-foot bubble are virtually zero — same if you decide to go rock climbing. Remember to pack all proper safety gear to ensure you’re not injured (or worse).
Staying active over Labor Day as opposed to, say, vegging out on the couch is always a better idea. Take a yoga class over the weekend if one is available to you.
Avoid wakeboarding this weekend — unless it’s only a once-a-year type of thing for you. Your chances of being injured are exponentially higher with so many other people on the water.
If you do experience an injury or discomfort as a result of your Labor Day activities, we’re happy to help provide drug-free pain and injury solutions. Contact Espinosa Family Chiropractic to schedule your consultation.
Planning Meals for the Fall Season
Did you know that one of the most common reasons that people tend to do away with a healthy diet is due to lack of variety? It’s true! When we get used to eating the same old thing, whether it’s that grilled chicken and kale salad, those Brussels sprouts, or even that weird oatmeal creation you keep in the fridge overnight so you can “enjoy” it the next morning.
Switching Up Your Diet for the Fall Season
Instead of falling victim to one of the most common predators to a healthy diet, let’s shake things up a bit.
Remix Your Salad Options
Instead of that boring chicken salad, make some quinoa and throw some roasted pear, walnuts, beets, and chard in there. Toss this fresh, new creation in a Fall-friendly dressing why don’t you? Maple-cider vinaigrette might be a fun option.
Suh-Suh-Suh Soup-Making!
Next, why not explore the interesting world of soup making? Tomato soups are great for this time of year, not to mention creamy baked potato. If you’re staying away from starch and carbs, opt for a pumpkin-style soup.
Your crockpot is your friend during the Fall season. Dump a bunch of healthy ingredients over a nutritionally-sound base, turn on its slow-cooking capabilities, and set off on your day. When you get home, your creation will likely be waiting for you in a state of yummy completion.

End of Summer Health and Wellness Assessment
It’s likely that for most of us our yearly health and wellness goals have been somewhat sidelined due to the many closures and restrictions that we’re all living with right now across the United States.
However, even though COVID-19 is still running it’s way through the world, life doesn’t stop. It’s important to take stock of our own health and wellness during this time. The end of the summer is an excellent benchmark to see where you’re at!
How Do You Look?
First, take a quick look in the mirror. How do you appear to yourself? Are you a little overweight or are you happy with your body? Are you looking tired and fatigued or are you looking like you’re ready to successfully run a marathon? Be honest with yourself in order to properly recalibrate your goals in order to ensure you’re at the spot where you want to be when this rocky year is said and done.
How Do You Feel?
Again, are your energy levels feeling high or low? Chances are, if you’ve been eating healthy this summer, you should be feeling energized and ready for whatever this crazy life is going to throw at you next. If you’ve been eating junk food, you might be feeling more on the lethargic or bogged-down side. Let’s fix that!
If it’s hot outside, that’s the perfect chance to prepare a fresh green salad with clean, whole ingredients, not to mention a glass of crystal-clear water to wash everything down with. Changing your diet, exercising, and exploring chiropractic treatment will all help make you feel energized and revitalized.

What Makes a Food a “Superfood”?
You’ve likely heard of the term “Superfood,” as our society starts to become a little more health-conscious and a little more aware of what the food we take in each day does to our body. But maybe it still might be a mystery to you what makes a food “Super,” which is exactly why Espinosa Family Chiropractic is providing you with this article!
A superfood is generally termed as a food that is rich in certain compounds, like antioxidants, fatty acids, etc. that are known to be exceptionally good for a person’s health.
However, in today’s marketing-ridden culture, many foods are being dubbed “Super” merely to increase sales numbers, without actually delivering much in the nutrition realm.
What we do know is that when people think of food as medicine, it will be less likely that they experience health conditions that will put them on permanent medication.
Blueberries, kale, walnuts, turmeric, garlic, spirulina, and many other foods have been labeled “Superfoods” while also delivering some serious nutrition to your body in the process.
Many of these superfoods can help reduce your risk of getting heart disease or cancer. But, when it comes down to it, your body is your body. Try some superfoods on for size and see if you get any noticeable results.
Wanna know what goes hand-in-hand with a good diet with ample amounts of superfoods? Chiropractic treatment, that’s what! Our treatments help heal entire families.
Chiro for Carpal Tunnel
CTS (Carpal tunnel syndrome) is a condition brought on by pressure that is put on the median nerve in a consistent or aggravating fashion. The most common activities that cause CTS are activities like typing at your keyboard, hammering/construction, automotive work/wrench work, as well as many actions inherent in many sports and leisure activities.
Pressure on your median nerve can often be caused by repetitive motion in a certain area — which explains why typing, chopping, hammering, etc. can often contribute to CTS.
Essentially, performing tasks over and over again is going to create a ton of wear and tear on the body. However, there are things we can do to alleviate the pain and wear and tear, chiropractic treatment being one of them.
Chiropractic and Carpal Tunnel
A majority of those who take advantage of chiropractic treatment show a significant improvement in things like range of motion, hand and finger sensation, not to mention overall pain reduction. These are problems that people who have carpal tunnel have to live with every day. One simple chiropractic treatment can do a lot to improve any lingering pain and discomfort.
Drug-Free Pain Solution
Those of us who would like to avoid prescription medication might seek chiropractic treatment to alleviate carpal tunnel problems. It’s a great alternative to surgery and drugs, especially in our current opioid crisis. Chiropractic treatment does its part on a daily basis to keep people away from opiates.
